There are 27 police districts in Norway. PST has according to law a national responsibility, and this responsibility is observed locally in the police districts and in Svalbard.
PST activities are carried out locally under the direction of the Director General
All police districts outside Oslo have their own PST unit that carries out operational work in relation to PST matters. PST activities at these local PST offices are directed by the respective chiefs of police, and with respect to PST-expertise matters they are under the direction of the Director General of The Norwegian Police Security Service.
