The PST Headquarters is located in Oslo.
The framework for the organisational structure of PST is stipulated by the Norwegian Parliament in section 17 a of the Police Act, which states that “(t)he positions for specified terms of years that are listed in section 17 b relate to a separate police body (The Norwegian Police Security Service). The Service shall be directed from a headquarters.”
The Headquarters has been given special functions
In section 17c of the Police Act, the Norwegian Parliament has defined in more detail the functions that should specifically be carried out by the Headquarters.
This provides that the Headquarters shall:
- prepare threat assessments for the political authorities;
- work in partnership with other countries’ police authorities and security and intelligence services; and
- conduct personal checks for use in security vetting.
The Headquarters has sole responsibility for PST activity within Oslo Police District
PST matters in the other 26 police districts in the country are dealt with locally by the respective chief of police, but are led and co-ordinated from the Headquarters.
