In 1999, the Norwegian Parliament decided to permit individuals to access records held in PST archives. This right of access is in accordance with the Provisional Act concerning the limited access to the archives and databases of the Secret Police Service” (the Disclosure Act), which was passed on 4 March 1999 and came into force on 1 January 2000.
The Disclosure Act has given individuals the possibility to examine documents in the Secret Police’s archives and databases that contains information relating to the individual in question. The arrangement covers documents prepared in the period between 8 May 1945 and 8 May 1996.
The deadline for applying for access to material in accordance with the Disclosure Act expired on 31 December 2002.
The Access reviewing Committee administers the disclosure arrangement
The Norwegian Parliament has appointed a dedicated body, called "The Access reviewing Committee on the Norwegian Police Security Service"
(in Norwegian: "Innsynsutvalget"), to process applications for disclosure and compensation.
